The AF 25 - 'Tis the year of the Nike Air Force, for it has been 25 years since the release of the original Air Force basketball shoe. Back then, the shoes were known simply as "Air Forces" rather than "Air Force 1s." Frankly, I never liked the idea of adding a number on the end of this shoe. We all know it's the original, and it's the most relevant. Consumers don't need the number, although the younger set needs to be educated about the shoe's history. Nike has done a fairly decent job of this. They could do better.
While I prefer Air Jordans and Dunks, I wouldn't mind blowing $175 on a pair of Air Force 25 Supremes. I'm not a fan of the translucent bottom and visible air sole, nor the minimalist upper that looks like a giant slab of leather with bad lines. But, I appreciate the quality of this shoe's leather and the fact that this is an event shoe.
The Air Force 25 is the biggest thing since the Air Max 360 a year ago. I wondered how Nike would follow it up. The Air Max 360 II just isn't enough. The Air Force 25 is the "it" shoe this year. Anyone wanting cutting-edge sneaker fashion should put the 25s on their feet and pair them with a slammin' track jacket.
